Craft Gold is cold filtered, not pasteurised, and therefore it retains all of the flavour of its real ale counterpart (Centennial). If anything the flavour is enhanced by the light carbonation and chilling to around 5 degrees C. The end result is a very full flavoured continental style beer which doesn’t suffer from any of the drawbacks of cask (aka real) ale. We still love real ale and we’ll continue to brew it as fast as we can but real ale isn’t the be all and end all. There’s been lots of public debate recently about the merits and otherwise of real versus craft and I refuse to join in. Here’s what our craft beer is ….

+Full flavoured
+All natural ingredients
+No sulphites
+No added sugar
+Traditionally brewed and then cold filtered
+Easier to handle than real ale
+Better shelf life than real ale

and here’s what it’s not ….
-mass produced
-bland
-pasteurised
-tasteless
-full of chemicals

We’re running an experiment at The Old Fighting Cocks. We’re serving Centennial at 2 deg C instead of the usual 11. The cold temperature really accentuates the hoppy bite. We love it but we do realise that one or two purists will complain that real ale shouldn’t be served that cold. We’ll just have one of the handpulls at the pub running cold and we’ll judge the response.
